Ericka Alfaro studied at Nicaragua’s Universidad CentroAmericano (UCA), completing a degree in Architecture in 2009. With a core focus in sustainability, she has worked on projects in Central America and Africa. She recently took part juror member of 4th earth architecture competition with NKA Foundation in Abetenim Ghana and took part in a sustainability project for Sostenica, designing adobe homes that integrated green technology as well as vegetable gardens. In 2015, as a member of a design team for NKA Africa, she worked on the preliminar design of the Abetenim Senior secondary school in Ghana. Between May 2014 and October 2015 she served as a consulting architect in a sustainable urban project called “Promocion de un transporte Ambientalmente sostenible para Managua Metropolitana” with PNUD/GEF from the United National Development Program and the Managua government to promote bicycle use in public transportation. In 2011 she participated in the Holcim Awards for sustainable construction in Nicaragua for FUNDESONIC , and in 2010 she handled supervision and design for and adobe home construction project for a rural community in Nicaragua.
